Rulking It + a protein review and giveaway!

13 Jun

Welcome to a new week!

I got back home safe and sound yesterday from my college enrollment trip and am so relieved to have everything situated for the fall semester. Everything went really well and I got much more familiar with the town and campus. I’m a small town girl and it was awesome to see that this town has much more to offer in terms of shopping, grocery, and just things to do in general. It definitely has me excited to move up in just a few short months! Going there also made everything get very “real.” I can’t believe that this move that I’ve been planning and thinking about since Junior year of high school is actually going to be happening…soon. It’s scary but exciting at the same time and I know that many good things will come from it!

In the mean-time I have a lot to do to prepare. I have a giant list of things that I need to get for my dorm so I see a major shopping spree in the near future. 🙂

Back to this morning, I set out on a glorious trail rulk…aka a run/walk.

Had more ballz before I left. (obsessed!)

I did about 3 miles in total and it was such a great start to my day! The weather was perfect, not too hot yet but still nice and sunny, and a light breeze. Those miles flew by! I decided to skip the Ipod and just enjoy the peaceful outdoors…what a great way to clear your mind and relieve stress. Remember when I used to be really big on running? Well I haven’t really ran in a long time but it’s been fun to re-introduce it into my fitness routine. I definitely want to do more throughout this Summer! Nothing too crazy. I just like to keep it light and fun. 😀

And I’ve got the perfect of new pair of running shoes to do just that:

I bought these babies yesterday online at Sports Authority with a 10% off and free two day shipping plus return shipping if they don’t work out. Oh, how i LOVE online shopping! These are supposed to be super light-weight so I’m really stoked to try them out. I should have them by tomorrow or Wednesday!

Once I got home and showered, I had breakfast round two: Tropical Delight Oats!

011

overnight egg white chia oat bran (1/2 cup oatbran, 1/2 cup egg whites, 1 cup water, 1 tbsp chia seeds, cinnamon, frozen mangos, frozen blueberries) and topped it with blended silken tofu. So fresh tasting and amazing. Mangos always bring my mind to the tropics and beaches. 😀

I recently was given the opportunity to try out a new-to-me brand of protein powder, called Gotein.

Gotein was designed for the busy, on the go person, which I’m sure many of us can appreciate. Gotein comes in individual one-serving packets that can be tossed in your purse and used wherever, whenever. You can even just pour it into a water bottle and shake!

The packets look like this:

Vanilla stick

Stats:

  • 110 calories
  • 16-17 grams protein
  • 5-6 grams carbs
  • enriched with 24 vitamins and minerals
  • whey protein blend
  • sweetened with sucralose (Splenda)

I decided to give the chocolate a try:

002

The Mix:

  • 1 Gotein chocolate packet
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • spinach leaves
  • extra scoop of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • pinch of guar and xanthan gum for thickening
  • ice

001

The verdict?

Not too shabby! I’ve never been one to just shake some protein powder with water. I like to make big creamy shakes in the blender! Using this protein powder, it provided the right amount of sweetness and made for a nice creamy shake. I noticed a slight artificial taste but overall it was pretty good. I would definitely use this protein powder in a pinch if I was out running around and needed something quick…or it would also be GREAT for traveling!

Interested in trying Gotein for yourself?

Just leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite protein shake recipe!

I loooove a classic green monster protein smoothie.
I usually pick a nonflavored protein powder and add it to about 1cup of frozen spinach, 7 ice cubes, 1 banana, 1/2cup of orange juice, and some xantham gum (1/2 teaspoon) to thicken!

I’m a fan of the classic green monster, but my fave protein shake has to be:
    1 cup milk
    1/2 cup yoghurt
    1 large banana
    ICE 🙂
    agave
Few tbsp chocolate protein powder (I like Sunwarrior)
So So good… I even add in some ice cream occasionally if I’m feeling decadent 🙂

  28. Rachel June 18, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

I pretty much make a different mix each time I make a protein smoothie… but today i made a really good one. it was vanilla chai flavored.
vanilla protein powder, cottage cheese, vanilla extract, stevia, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, lots of ice and chilled chai tea. it was a major experiment but it turned out really good.
