Top Ten Healthiest Cities, WIAW!

7 Mar

In honor of National Nutrition Month, I received an email stating the top ten healthiest and top ten unhealthiest cities based on check-ins to healthy venues.

First Column: Healthiest Cities, Second Column: Unhealthiest Cities:

1 Honolulu, HI Winston-Salem, NC
2 Burlington, VT Little Rock, AR
3 San Jose, CA Lexington, KY
4 San Diego, CA Manchester, NH
5 Seattle, WA Greenville, SC
6 Boulder, CO Scranton, PA
7 Philadelphia, PA Peoria, IL
8 Los Angeles, CA Huntsville, AL
9 Washington, DC Springfield, MO
10 San Francisco, CA Myrtle Beach, SC

Did your city make the cut? Good ol’ Kansas isn’t up there, but I doubt we would have scored very well, ha! Sad but true. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t need another reason to move to Hawaii. The fact that they are healthy just makes these views that much more desirable:

Yeah, I think I could get used to waking up that every day.

Okay, dream time over. Food time ON, with What I Ate Wednesday!

<more of a collaboration of recent eats, as I hardly ever capture all I eat in one day>

still adore this pumpkin roll recipe. It’s one of my favorite breakfasts right now!

my oats got crazy big yesterday! I haven’t ever had my OIAJ overflow like that before…maybe it had something to do with the fact that that particular pb jar wasn’t quite so empty…hehe.

The Mix: 1/2 cup oatbran, 1 spoonful chia seeds, 1 cup almond milk, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup liquid egg whites (blended with cream of tartar first…makes it fluffy!), cinnamon, ginger, stevia, maple extract.

Revv pulse kcup with almond milk and stevia. *I like this one a lot! It’s an extra bold, so I can brew it at a larger cup setting and have a bigger mug of coffee!

IMG 3010

paleo pumpkin pancakes with cream cheese/grape jelly, and blueberries

IMG 3015

cheese and mushroom POWER PIZZA!

IMG 3023

monster meatloaf, sandwich thins with hummus and balsamic vinegar, salad

IMG 3013

monster meatloaf, veggies and hummus, mashed avocado and sea salt on toast

IMG 3035

crumbled brown rice cakes, bloobs, and protein shake poured on top

IMG 3034

lunch plate with lentils, avocado, cucumber, baked chicken, sweet potato with cream cheese and peanut butter

IMG 3036

been loving roasted cauliflower! I usually use: coconut oil, nutritional yeast, curry, cumin, chili powder, garlic, and a bit of seasoned salt. Roast at 400 degrees for around 30-45 minutes.

And that my friends, is a wrap for today.

If you could live anywhere, where would you live? I believe Hawaii is the place for me. 😀

Have a GREAT DAY!

how in the world did my city LA make it on that list?! we are so lazy out here! although we do have hollywood, which is filled with movie stars and celebrities. So maybe that does kind of make sense 😉

Wow your eats look awesome! Especially the pumpkin roll recipe – YUMMMMMMM!
If I could live anywhere it would probably be somewhere warm – like California! Love the beach 🙂

  5. Alexandra March 7, 2012 at 3:14 pm #

No Texas on the list, even though I think Dallas may be on the lower end with all the southern fried food haha 😉
I’ll move to Hawaii with you and we can eats tons of that delicious looking roasted cauliflower haha

My city is not on the list at all, so that is good, haha!

My oats were overflowed today too, I made them last night and had to put a little in a bowl on the side so I could put the lid on!

Loving the dessert, as I did the other day! Looks so good!

    Happy Wednesday! ❤

Love the pizza idea. I just started a Paleo challenge so I’m looking for ways to have my old favorites within this plan.

  9. Kaila @ Healthy Helper March 7, 2012 at 6:08 pm #

I wish my city was on there but there is no way it will ever make the list! We are the home of chicken wings after all! LOL!

I would love to live ANYWHERE that is warm all year long….I hate the cold SO much!

  10. Looks like another fab collection of great eats! I’m especially loving all the fiber rich foods – veg and berry love in particular. Yum!

Oh SAD!! I live in Winston-Salem and hate that we have a bad reputation! The local YMCAs are all doing a weight loss challenge and apparently thousands of collective pounds have been lost. I would definitely move to Hawaii with you 😉

Everything you eat looks delicious! You’re so inspiring to me who ate oatmeal for dinner yesterday.
My set-up seems similar to yours- college student living an an apartment (well, mine’s on campus) without a meal plan. I have roommates, but I usually cook alone. I often don’t buy a diverse set of veggies because I can’t eat them all, and I’m often too impatient to cook. Do you cook all this gorgeous food for yourself? What’s your secret? 🙂

    • Sweetly Fit March 10, 2012 at 11:36 pm #

No secret really. I just truly love to cook so it’s no chore for me, more of a hobby. 🙂

your eats look really good! i definitely have to try that cauliflower!!

  14. Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope March 8, 2012 at 12:55 am #

What a neat ranking! I’m impressed by how spread out they are around the country.

That pumpkin roll looks SO good!

  15. eatingforexcellence March 8, 2012 at 2:31 am #

Wow what an interesting thing to find! I’m not sure I ever would’ve guessed half the cities to belong where they did on that list. Your OIAJ looks like the bomb holy crap. MUST TRY!

  16. turtlespdrunner March 8, 2012 at 8:12 am #

How do you get the overnight oats to spill over? Do you leave the lid off overnight?

    • Sweetly Fit March 8, 2012 at 2:50 pm #

That one actually isn’t overnight oats. I just cooked them up on the stovetop and plopped it right into the jar. 🙂

  17. myhealthyaddictions March 8, 2012 at 5:37 pm #

I would live in Florida or Texas. I love living in Idaho with all 4 seasons, but lets get serious- I could get used to summer year round!
Oh and those OIAJ look so good 🙂

  18. Pumpedpumpkin March 8, 2012 at 5:59 pm #

Holy cow. Overflowing oats like whoa! That’s awesome – if I still ate oats I would definitely give that a try. The pumpkin roll looks AWESOME too. I could easily see that becoming one of my favorite breakfasts. I’d definitely try a splurge on that one – I’ll take the tummy risks!

Can’t believe Philly made the top 10…. and it doesn’t surprise me Scranton is in the bottom lol. I live closer to Philly but have family from Scranton. Looks like I have both good and bad things going for me

    I agree with you Hawaii!!

  19. Allison (Allison's Delicious Life) March 9, 2012 at 1:08 am #

ooh I absolutely love the idea of the smoothie with crumbled up rice cakes! you’re so super creative!
